Richard (Dick) Francis Messier


September 8, 1947 – August 13, 2025


Richard “Dick” Francis Messier, of Duxbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 13, 2025 at the age of 77. Born in Abington on September 8, 1947, Dick was the son of the late Francis and Willamina (Ward) Messier. He graduated from Abington High School in 1965 and went on to enjoy a long career as a truck driver, including 25 years as a proud Teamster with New England Frozen Foods.


On August 17, 2002, Dick married the love of his life, Nancy Flynn-Messier, with whom he shared many adventures, laughs, and cherished memories.


Dick was predeceased by his daughter Dennise Messier. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Berryman; stepchildren Christopher Brokmeier, Bryan Brokmeier, Michael Brokmeier, Shawn George and Kerry Schlager; a dozen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his five beloved sisters—Joyce, Barbara, Patty, Judy, and Ann—along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.


Dick had a zest for life and a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, and white-water rafting, and was particularly proud of achieving a hole-in-one at Ridder Farm Golf Course. He and Nancy shared a passion for travel, with highlights including a trip to Alaska in August 2019 and a trip to Hawaii in October 2022. A devoted New England Patriots fan, Dick rarely missed a game and loved cheering on his team.


He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his humor, and his deep love for his family.


Memorial visiting hours will be held on Saturday, August 30th from 9-11:00 AM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St. (Rt. 106) KIngston with a graveside serivce to follow at the Mayflower cemetery in Duxbury.
