Barbara Ann Giovacco Obituary

Barbara Giovacco, 83, of Middleboro MA passed away peacefully at home on August 6, 2025 surrounded by her family, following a long illness which she faced with strength and grace.


Born in Passaic, NJ on October 4, 1941. She was the eldest child of Charles and Anne Beres. She was a devoted wife, mother, Grammy, Great Grammy, sister and friend to many. She was easily adored by everyone who met her. 


Barbara grew up in Clifton NJ. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Paterson State College in 1962. In that same year, she married David, her high school sweetheart and they soon started a family of their own. In their early years, they owned and operated a fine dining restaurant in Clifton, The Pub. They raised their family in Roseland NJ and then moved to Colorado Springs for nine years before returning to Toms River NJ. During this time Barbara worked for the Asbury Park Press and then retired to Middleboro MA.


Wherever she lived, Barbara became part of her community, making many friends along the way. Known for her trademark red lipstick, all were enamored by her contagious laugh and hostess skills. At football tailgating parties, she was donned “Queen of the Finger Sandwiches”. She loved entertaining at home, delving into her guests’ life stories. A talented crafter, she loved quilting, embroidery, sewing curtains and making creative Halloween costumes. She enjoyed decorating her homes in a welcoming manner. Barbara’s greatest joy was found in loving her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends.


She is survived by her husband David Giovacco (Middleborough, MA), and daughters Kim Giovacco (Greenville SC), Kerry Davis (husband Richard of Kingston MA), and Randi Fish (husband Kevin Fish of North Stonington CT), as well as grandson Patrick Davis (wife Megan of South Hadley MA) and granddaughter Kylie Vartelas (husband Geoff of Carver MA), as well as three beloved great-grandchildren: Avery, Cole and Amelia.


Barbara was the eldest of six siblings born to Charles and Ann Beres of Clifton NJ. Her siblings Joan Perrett (Paul), Charles Beres Jr (Patricia), Jane Morici (Christopher) and Cathy Parisi all reside in NJ. Her brother Richard Beres predeceased her. She is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.


Visiting hours will be at Shepherd’s Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston MA on Tuesday August 12 from 10 am-12 pm. Funeral service will be at 12:00 pm followed by a burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Kingston. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cranberry Hospice in Plymouth Massachusetts.
