Robert Joseph "Bob" Galibois Obituary

Robert Joseph (Bob) Galibois, 80, of Duxbury, MA, passed away peacefully, with the love and support of his family, on June 20, 2025.

Bob was born on June 10, 1945 to Alfred and Blanche Galibois of Somerville, MA. He graduated from Boston College High School (1963) and from Boston College (1967).  After earning a Master’s in Accounting from Northeastern University (1968), Bob served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army, stationed at various posts in and around Vietnam.

Upon his return, Bob initially launched a career as a Certified Public Account at  Touche Ross (nowDeloitte), later elevating to senior executive positions at Polaroid, Boston Financial Data Services, Mediq—one of the first firms to commercialize medical imaging—and several others.

Bob reveled in his work and developed strong bonds with colleagues and business partners. But nothing meant more to Bob than his family, which started with his wife Kathy (nee Sugden). After meeting in 1965,Bob and Kathy married and initially lived in Millis, MA(1973-1984), before settling in Duxbury with their two sons Robert (Rob) and Michael.

Bob and Kathy were the consummate team for 56 years, enjoying travel, frequent walks on Duxbury Beach, community service projects, and visits with family and friends. And like so many, they particularly enjoyed time with their grandchildren Maxwell, Cameron, Bridget, and Leah—indulging them and celebrating their accomplishments (big and small)whenever possible. After Kathy passed in October 2024, Bob remained devoted to his family and community, continuing to travel and supporting others in need.

Bob had a strong intellect with a generous heart. He was an avid reader, who also enjoyed sharing his own stories and provoking debate. In retirement, he was proud to reflect on how a French-speaking, only child of immigrant parents from Quebec somehow managed to be part of a growing and engaged family. He always first credited Kathy, but grew to accept his role in later years, which provided some comfort in his final months.

Bob will be remembered by many. His family will remember a devoted husband, a father attending his sons’ games no matter distant the ballparks or gymsmay be, a father-in-law who learned much from women he considered his daughters, and a grandfather who made his grandchildren laugh and even danced with them with only a little urging. And his friends will remember Bob as a colleague, a smart and compassionate confidant, and an active member of Holy Family Church of Duxbury.

To all who knew him, Bob was generous, humble, and kind. And he always carry his favorite title: “Papa” to his four grandchildren

Bob is survived by his son Rob Galibois of Barnstable, MA along with his wife Nikki, and their sons Maxwell and Cameron, and his son Michael Galibois of Chicago, IL, along with his wife Amy, and their daughters Bridget and Leah.

Visitation will be held at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury on August 9th at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. All are welcome to a reception at the American Legion, 5 West Street, Duxbury following the funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (https://www.dana-farber) or by mail Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
