John Michael Doherty Sr., of Carver MA, age 79 passed on June 14, 2025 (Flag Day).

John was the son of the late John Henry Doherty and Alma (Moquin-Doherty) Keith and Stepfather Harry Keith.

John is survived by his wife Dorothy (Dot) Doherty of Carver, their children Kristen Lyons and her husband Bill of Middleboro, Kerri Bush and her husband Matt of California, John Doherty Jr. and his wife Molly of Marshfield, Deanna Stringer and her husband Todd of Arkansas. He is grandfather to Billy and Ben Lyons, Zelda Bush and Mila-Jo Doherty. Also, his best friends Betty and Barry Seigal.

John was a Vietnam Navy Veteran serving from 1965-1969 as a mechanic in the US Military. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

His love for God and his Country was his true passion. His love for his family was always above and beyond. He was a wonderful and generous provider. He loved camping and clamming along the shores of Duxbury with his children and grandchildren. He loved to cook and was one of Julia Childs biggest fans. One year while visiting the Museum of Science we got to meet her as she was also a visitor, John was in his glory.

Most importantly John over the years had many appts. at the VA Facilities for medical issues, he developed many relationships with many fellow Veterans. They had conversations about their service in the military. Before John would part, he would always salute them, and they would salute back. He was so very proud to be an American Soldier.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the Doctors, Nurses, Caregivers and staff at the Hospice and Palliative Unit Bldg. 7 Brockton VA Campus for being so wonderful, kind and caring not only to John but to his family as well. We are truly blessed.

Calling hours will be held Monday June 23rd from 4-8pm at Shpeherd Funeral Home 116 Main St. Carver a Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday June 24th at 10 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Carver MA.  

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Mary Queen of Martyrs Church 10 Memorial Drive, Plymouth MA 02360 in memory of John M. Doherty Sr. would be greatly appreciated. The funds will be used to place benches in the Church Gardens.
