Edmund J. Hill Obituary

Edmund Hill - June 4, 2025

Edmund J. Hill – 78 years old passed away peacefully at home listening to his favorite song, Take me Home, Country Roads, by John Denver. Now he’s reunited with his beloved wife Claire.

Ed was son of Edmund and Selma (Brown) Hill. He is the eldest brother to Sally Ferrell of Plympton, Ma, Laura Murphy of Halifax, Ma, and Robert Hill (Tish) of Halifax, Ma.

As a life long Massachusetts resident known for his quiet strength, deep love for the outdoors and dedication to his family.

He leaves behind his children Debra Sherman (Kevin Tweed) of Hanover, Ma, David Tourtillott (Diana) of Scituate, Ma, Denise Smith (Shawn McCartney) of Halifax, Ma and Michael Hill (Melissa) of Bath, Me.

Papa was a cherished grandfather to Justin (Paula), Jessica (Sean), Cara (Shane), Danielle (Jay), Kristin (Nick), Cody (Ainsley), Austin, Taylor, Emma, Willow, Tucker, Sawyer and Addison.

He found great joy in his role as a great grand father to Avery, Brooklyn, Lilah, Jeffrey, Kinsley, GraceLynn – predeceased him, Kate, Jackson and Mila.

His presence in their lives was steady, loving and unforgettable. Papa had a way of keeping everyone in line. If things got too loud or out of hand on a camping trip or during craft night, you could count on hearing, “You want a knuckle sandwich?” - a classic Papa phase delivered with a grin and just enough seriousness to make you think twice. He leaves behind not just a big family, but a lifetime of memoriess and handmade treasures that will keep his spirit close – rocking chairs that still creek, signs still hanging, and stories they will keep telling for years to come.

Also he leaves behind several nieces, nephews and many friends with their own stories to tell.

An avid outdoors man, Eddie found peace in the simplicity of nature. Whether fishing by a quiet lake or hunting in the woods of Maine, he was most at home under an open sky. He passed down his love for the outdoors to his family, leaving behind not only fond memories but also a legacy of appreciation for  life’s natural beauty.

He will be remembered for his honesty, his warmth, and the quiet way he showed his love.

Our famiy is grateful for the compassionate care given by Cranberry Hospice in his last week of life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Upland Club Friday June 27, 2025 at 5pm. 76 Upland Road, Plympton, Ma
