My youngest childhood memory was my big brother Joshie making me cars out of cardbox driving me around the house. He loved to spend time with his little sis as Ive always loved any time together. As teenagers Josh , Chris & I had lots of fun ,crazy memorable nights .We even accidently blew up my mustang one of those night..Another memory is us driving back from bootcamp & big buck ran right in back of the car on his side. I remember when Joshie called me one day said sis I think I've met the one so you have come boston and meet her . After meeting barb i knew she was the one for my big brother . My very last memory was sitting in my back yard talking about God family and raising our children together .. Hes forever our hero everytime we see the kids!!! I love you & miss you forever big bro

I remember when you were dating Josh, got engaged, got married. I feel I was part of your journey with Josh. When you got pregnant in Hawaii, had Owen and traveled the USA when it was time to come home. You kept me informed every step of the way. It is a honor to be in the Curtis family life. Remember, you have an angel looking over you and Owen. He will wrap his arms around you and Owen, and always keep you safe.

Josh, Barbara, and Owen were one of the first families my wife and I met when we moved to Halifax in 2022. Our boys started school together as kindergarteners at Halifax Elementary the following year. What I loved most about Josh was his unwavering commitment to Owen. Every school function, community event, and afternoon at the park that our family attended, Josh was there, often with Barbara by his side and always unabashedly cheering Owen on.
It was at these events that Josh and I began our friendship. We had a common interest in woodworking, a love of the outdoors and a deep commitment to being present in our children’s lives. No matter where it was that our paths crossed, Josh and I ended up deep in conversation about life, his progress at school, or future plans, all while keeping a watchful eye on our kids.
As I’ve reflected on the time that I got to spend with Josh and the legacy that he leaves behind, I’ve found myself challenged to be more present, more intentional, and more generous with my time, especially with the people I love. Josh had a quiet strength and a steady warmth that made those around him feel seen and valued. He didn’t just show up, he invested, and that kind of presence is rare.
His devotion to Owen and Barbara was inspiring, not just in the way he showed up, but in how deeply he engaged as a husband, father, a mentor, and a friend. He brought that same heart into his conversations, his passions, and his relationships. I feel incredibly grateful to have called him a friend, even if for a time that now feels far too short.
Josh’s memory will continue to live on in the way he loved his family, in the strength he passed on to Owen, and in the impact, he had on those lucky enough to know him. I will carry his example with me—and strive to live with the same intentionality, kindness, and presence that he so naturally gave to the world.
Rest in peace, Josh. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Josh was the kind of friend who left a lasting mark—through his humor, his honesty, and his immense heart. I have many memories of our conversations: endless talks about his ever-evolving career ideas, always changing, his desire to move to New Hampshire, and always updates on Owen’s newest adventures. He was incredibly proud of Barbara and Owen—you could see it in his face every time he spoke of them.
Life didn’t always go easy on Josh, and he faced his share of challenges. But even in those moments, he stayed strong, loved deeply, and kept showing up for the people he cared about. I’ll never forget the Celtics game with Mark, Josh, and Barbara—a great night full of laughs. Or getting to babysit Owen and boating with all three Curtises—those were wonderful days for me.
Josh left this world a hero, and that’s exactly how I’ll remember him. I will miss him more than words can say.

I'm one of the many people blessed to have known Josh a little bit through training JiuJitsu together in Bridgewater MA (at InJiuJitsu). He was such a quiet, patient, gentle person, and I did not know of his heroic service until someone else told me (Josh wasn't the sort to bring it up.)
Our conversations on the the side of the mat were meaningful, chatting about his career as an aspiring master craftsman, about philosophy and stoicism, and just about the day to day things we were dealing with. Many people in our gym felt touched by his decency and goodness. He impacted many people-- far more than he likely understood. He will be missed.

Q: What 3 words best describe Joshua and why?
A: Engaging,
Josh always asked questions about my life and the important people and occasions in it.
Open,
Josh didn't hesitate to share the imporatnt milestones and memories in his life, and was always looking for ways to improve the quality of love in his life.
Loving,
Josh was one of the best role models for being both a Dad and husband, and we often shared our experiences growing up on what we wanted to pass on, what we wanted to improve on, and what we wanted to leave behind.
