Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John R. Santarpia, 85, of South Carver

John R. Santarpia, a lifelong resident of South Carver, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, surrounded by family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly (Askins) Santarpia; his sons John Jr. and wife Maria, Judson and wife Marissa, and Bradley and wife Alissa; and his grandchildren Kimberly, Maisy, Alex, Melissa, and Michael. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary (Halunen) and James Santarpia; his sisters Patricia Main and Mary Ann Andrews; and his granddaughter Emily Mae Santarpia.

John was known for his warm smile, quick wit, and the twinkle in his eyes that let you know he was about to say something funny. He had a great sense of humor and especially loved making his grandchildren laugh. A patient, loving, and generous man, John was deeply devoted to his family, friends, and community.

He found great joy in the quiet beauty of nature, spending hours on his front porch watching the wildlife. He was a proud third-generation cranberry grower of Finnish descent, carrying on the family tradition with pride, dedication, and quiet perseverance. He also served as a devoted volunteer firefighter for the Carver Fire Department.

John spent his career as a heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4—a perfect fit for his lifelong passion for trucks and construction equipment. His skill, knowledge, and strong work ethic earned the respect of those he worked with throughout the years.

John leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered always for his honesty, humor, and gentle spirit.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, May 10th from 3-5:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St (Rt. 58) Carver.

A graveside service will follow at the Union Cemetery, Main St. Carver, MA.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either Cranberry Hospice or Dreams for Emily.
