Obituary of Patricia M. Sutton

Patricia M. Sutton, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, at the age of 91. A longtime resident of Duxbury, Massachusetts, Pat most recently resided at Wingate in Kingston, MA.

Patricia, known fondly as "Pat," leaves behind her loving children, daughter Mary Whittemore of White Plains, New York, and son Mark Sutton of Savannah, Georgia. She is also survived by her three cherished grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas L. Sutton, a retired U.S. Navy Submarine Commander.

Pat's love for her family was boundless, and her warmth and kindness extended to her many friends and her beloved golden retriever Schatze. She found joy in sailing, flowers, and the natural beauty of Buzzards Bay. The mountains, trees, birds, and a snowy day never failed to bring her happiness, and she especially loved a cozy fireplace. Pat’s radiant smile was as bright as her colorful sweaters and her signature red lipstick, reflecting her vibrant personality and love for life. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and warm welcoming spirit.

An avid lover of poetry, Pat both read and wrote poetry throughout her life. She enjoyed long walks on Duxbury Beach, had an appreciation for sports cars, and delighted in taking small trips. She valued simplicity, sincerity, honesty, and peace.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Pat attended The Oxford School for Girls before earning her Bachelor of Science from the University of Delaware. Her career included roles as an elementary school teacher, a clerk at Hartford National Bank, and later, a Student Placement Officer at the Harvard Business School.

Patricia’s life was one of love, laughter, and appreciation for the simple joys of nature and companionship. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A private family service will be held to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Patricia’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
