

Obituary of Owen Patrick Doonan III
Owen Patrick Doonan III, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025. Owen was born in Boston on May 9, 1939. His parents were Owen P. Doonan, Jr. and Mary E. Doonan of Malden. He grew up in Malden, MA and graduated from Malden High School where he enjoyed playing hockey as goalie as a member of the Malden High Golden Rods. Owen continued playing hockey at Boston University and then transferred to the University of Miami, Florida. Owen served in the U.S Army and Army Reserves and continued in the State Army Reserves until 1968.
Owen met his wife Mary (McCarte) in Boston. They were married in Attleboro and lived in Boston, Stoughton and Manchester, Connecticut, were he worked to set up several franchises in the newly blossoming franchise industry before moving to Duxbury as a young family of six.
As a member of Holy Family Church, Owen served as a member of the Finance Committee at the time of the building of the new church and taught classes in Religious Education for eighth grade and Confirmation. He especially enjoyed the boys Confirmation retreats and living his Cursillo at the Retreat house at Stonehill College in Easton.
Owen suffered a serious stroke in April of1996 and battled back to live with his disabilities and advocated for disabled people, serving on several State and private committees Including Easter Seals, Mass Rehabilitation Commission and the Perkins Library.
Our Family was blessed to have Owen home for Christmas with all of the family to celebrate with Owen and Mary’s on their 61st wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Doonan. He is also survived by his son Owen P. Doonan, IV and his wife Nursel of Calabasas, California, his daughter Mary- Beth Doonan and her fiancé William Winchell of West Yarmouth Mass., his daughter Kathleen Webb and her husband Richard of Plymouth Mass, his son John Doonan and his wife Michelle of Kingston, Mass, and his grandchildren Kayla St. Michel and her husband Jeff, Samantha Mulvaney, Matthew Webb, Dylan Doonan, Aidan Doonan and Neisa Santos.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 14th at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. A Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 15th at Holy Family Church, Duxbury at 10:00 am. Burial services will directly follow at Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
