Obituary of Arthur Edward Doderer Jr.

Please share a memory of Arthur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Arthur E Doderer Jr, aged 93, resident of Kingston, passed away on Nov. 2 at the W. Roxbury VA Medical Center after a long illness.

Art joined the Army right out of high school, became an MP and was stationed in multiple places, including Korea and Vietnam.  He worked his way up to Sargeant E-8 First Class, winning many medals, including the Bronze Star, along the way. After spending over 20 years in the Army, he joined the Capitol Police in Washington, DC.  He worked as a motorcycle cop and spent over 20 years there as well. After he retired, Art moved to Pittsburg, NH where he enjoyed the outdoors, riding snowmobiles and playing golf.  He especially loved panning for gold and was able to snag a few good size nuggets.  Art was also an accomplished bowler. Art's favorite place in Kingston was Kent's Auto Service center.  In the beginning, he helped Kent out by running to the registry or getting inspections done, whatever he could do - they became fast friends.  Art got to meet and know all the customers and this made him really happy.  As time passed and Art grew older, he was no longer able to drive.  At this point, Kent started picking Art up first thing in the morning, so he could spend the day at the shop and see everybody.  And then he would bring Art home at the end of the day.  If you know Art, then you would also know that this meant the world to him – he loved to be around people!

Art is survived by his sister, Anne Buckley of Exeter, NH, his son, Arthur (Skip) and his wife Cris of Cumberland, RI, his son, Richard of Gorham, NH, his grand-daughter, Katie Liambis of Kingston and his best friend, Kent Watts of Kingston.  Art was pre-deceased by his parents, Ann and Arthur Doderer Sr, his wife, Gianette and his daughter, Holly Liambis.

Calling hours will be held Wed, Nov 6 from 3pm - 7pm at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston, Ma 02364.
