Obituary of Betty Shaw

Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Betty Shaw, 85, died at home with her family on Sunday, September 1, from natural causes and Parkinson’s.  Many thanks are due to Cranberry Hospice and Cahoon Care Associates for comfort in her final days.

Betty was born in rural Quebec, Canada, where farm animals were her closest friends.  Her love of all animals continued throughout her life. She enjoyed travelling in her later years, and would always find a dog along the way!

She graduated from the State University of New York in Plattsburgh with degrees in nursing and education.  This background reinforced her natural interest in caregiving which she offered to her husband, her children, and all others she came to know.  Her warm smile and cheerfulness made her much loved by all who knew her. While she spent many years in nursing and nursing education, Betty’s family was always her first priority. There, her common sense and firm, loving guidance made her an outstanding model of motherhood. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Marion, MA, and Pilgrim Church of Duxbury, MA.

Survivors include her husband Robert of 63 years, daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Rich Kugele, sons Duncan Shaw and his wife Lucia, Burke Shaw and his wife Maria, and Derek Shaw. Grandchildren are Brandon, Hudson, Sofia, Graham, and Walker.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Village At Duxbury on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, at 11:30.  Residents of the Village will be joined by the Pilgrim Church of Duxbury.  Rev. Peggy Files and Rev. Robert MacFarlane will officiate.  A reception at the Village will follow the service.  The family requests no flowers, and in lieu of flowers those wishing to make a donation do so to either of the following:
