Obituary of Shane Patrick McColgan
Shane Patrick McColgan passed away peacefully on May 17th 2023 at the age of 16, after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and Bronchial Obliterans lung disease.
Shane was born on January 30th, 2007 and grew up in Carver where he attended Carver Middle High School. He loved studying history, especially WW2, enjoyed being part of the Track and Field Team, and spending time with friends. Shane LOVED football, especially the New England Patriots Team. Meeting Cole Strange, Mr Robert Kraft and Matthew Judon was a highlight during his long battle with cancer. Shane also loved the Baltimore Ravens.
At the age of 7 Shane was the founder of the Shane Gives Thanks Food Pantry in Carver, Ma. Shane's belief was that "No one should go without."
Shane is survived by his mother Krystle Cole and bonus dad Jason Mahoney, and his little sister Peyton McColgan - who he was extremely proud of. His father John F. McColgan Jr. of Ellijay, GA. Aunts and Uncles Monica Cole & Ron Dardinski of East Bridgewater, Ma. Bryan and Erica Parisee of Fall River, Ma. and Steve and Beth Nashawaty of Lakeville, Ma. He is also survived by his Great Grandmother Doris Cronin of Pembroke, Ma. His Grandparents Walter and Susan Cole of Carver, MA, John and Judy McColgan of East Bridgewater, Janice Mahoney of CT, and Kevin and Ozzie Mahoney of FL. Also Shane will be missed by many cousins that loved him tremendously including Hailey, Carley, Olivia, Daniel, Cole, Dylan and Nolan.
Shane's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Boston Children's Hospital Oncology / Transplant and the ICU staff for taking such great care of Shane. As well as his team at Dana Farber.
As a gift that will keep going for years to come - Shane requested that his diseased lungs be donated to research for Bronchial Obliterans - so in the future we can cure this horrible disease.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Shane Gives Thanks Food Pantry located at 128 Main Street in Carver, Ma - to continue Shane's legacy of helping others. A fund is also being set up in the name of his sister Peyton for a college fund. Visitng hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St. (Rt. 58) in Carver, on Tuesdsay May 23rd, 2023 from 3-8:00 pm and all are welcome to attend.
