RICHARD E. BONZ

Dick Bonz died on Friday, March 3, ending a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was eighty-four.

After graduating from Dartmouth College, serving three years in the Navy, and receiving a master's degree in Urban Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, Dick worked as a commercial real estate consultant, initially for Robert Gladstone and Associates in Washington, D.C. He soon moved to Boston, MA, where he established a feasibility consulting practice at Minot, DeBlois, and Maddison before founding his own consulting firm, Bonz and Company.

His clients included both private developers and financial institutions, as well as hospitals and universities. Among his many projects, he was instrumental in the initial redevelopment of the Charlestown Navy Yard, the World Trade Center in the Seaport District, Mass MOCA of North Adams, and the Killington Grand Resort in Vermont, as well as a project in Ukraine for USAID.

An early proponent of and contributor to the vibrant greater Boston and New England of today, Dick was known to colleagues and friends as generous, curious, funny, intelligent, and uncompromising. To close friends and family he was also known as an intrepid sailor, who loved to share coastal adventures, especially during small-craft warnings.

Dick is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, two sons, and four grandchildren.
