Obituary of Lawrence J. Keleher

Lawrence J. Keleher, 75 of Kingston MA formally of Woburn passed away at Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth Hospital after a brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease on September 6, 2018.  He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Maltacea) for over 53 years.

Born in Chelsea, Larry was the son of the late Albert F. Keleher and Marie G. (Eldridge).  He grew up in Stoneham Mass and was a 1960 graduate of Stoneham High School.  Continuing his education at Merrimack College he earned a Bachelor Degree in Liberal Arts.  He then went on to receive his Masters of Education.

Larry began his career as an English and History teacher at The John F. Kennedy Middle school in Woburn.  He then became a Guidance Counselor until his retirement.  He was a beloved baseball and soccer coach at the school for a number of years.

When his three daughters were young he worked at The Boys Club of Woburn as the Former Day Camp Director.  Over the years, he enjoyed summering with his family at Newfound Lake in NH where he enjoyed sitting by the lake, boating, and reading a good book.

Once retired, Larry and his wife Pat enjoyed spending the winter months in Naples FL for many years.  They enjoyed golfing, bocce, trivia night, DJ night, dinner with friends and relaxing on the beach.

Surviving along with his wife Pat are three daughters Sandra A. Abban and her husband George of Middleboro, Lisa M. Diethelm and her husband Mark of Middleboro and Karen A. Quaranto and her husband John of Westford.  He was also the cherished Grampy of Mark, Kaitlyn, Alyssa, Matthew, Emma, Jack, Andrew, Michael, Sarah and Nicholas.

He leaves behind his brother David Keleher and his wife Dana of Auburn ME, his brother-in-laws Joseph Maltacea and his wife Carole of Woburn and Paul Maltacea of Marblehead, along with his nieces and nephew.  He was predeceased by his in-laws Orlando L. Maltacea and his wife Dorothy M. (Fiore).

The funeral will be held on Saturday September 15, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Josephs Parish 272 Main Street Kingston MA.  Celebration of life to immediately follow at the east Bay Grill in Plymouth.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Larry’s memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to The Missions of Deeds
