Joseph “Kerry” Fitzpatrick
Captain Joseph “Kerry” Fitzpatrick, 74 of Duxbury Ma, passed away on March 27, 2018 in Plymouth Ma, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Kerry was born in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of William and Helena “Bee” (Murphy) Fitzpatrick on September 24, 1943. Following graduation from Weston High School, Kerry enrolled as a cadet at Mass Maritime Academy, which launched him on his life long career as a Merchant Marine. Never one to sit still, Kerry also dabbled in Real Estate and spent time transporting people instead of cargo as a taxi driver, servicing Marshfield and the South Shore. Kerry enjoyed reading, especially about history, meeting people, and telling tales of his time at sea. Post retirement Kerry picked up a second career teaching for Mass Maritime Academy, as well as being an active member of the Boston Marine Society. He had the privilege of seeing his beloved Red Sox win three championships, certainly left him happy. Finally becoming a grandfather in the year 2013 a role which he cherished.
Kerry is survived by his wife Karen (Myers) of Duxbury Ma, his daughter Tracy (Fitzpatrick) DeMaggio and her husband David of Hanover Ma, his son Josh, daughter-in-law Cara (Gallozzi) Fitzpatrick and his grand children Alexa, 5 and Cameron, 2 of Duxbury Ma. Kerry is also survived by his older Brother, Brian Fitzpatrick, of Albany, NY. Kerry’s older sister Gail (Fitzpatrick) Shields, of Bristol RI, passed away in March of 2015. Kerry is survived by many other nieces, nephews and cousins who surely loved their time with him.
Services for Kerry will be held, Saturday March 31, 2018 at 10:00 AM, at the Shepard Funeral Home 216 Main St. Kingston, with a reception to follow at 12:00 PM at the Duxbury Bay Maritime School. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or the Lewy Body Resource Center.
“May the road rise up to meet you.”
